BEWARE OF "TONER BANDITS"
Buyer beware
Several of our customers have been contacted by people we call “Toner Bandits”.
They misrepresent themselves by saying that they are selling Toshiba or Kyocera or Lanier or Lexmark toner.
PLEASE BEWARE! These people are selling inferior products at greatly increased prices.
These products are not designed for use in your machine and are likely to damage it.
These bandits quote case prices, but fail to tell you that their case lot is two (2) – not the normal case size.
We have enclose some information to help you spot a toner bandit, how to avoid
becoming a victim, some laws to know as well as a list of questions that you should
ask anyone trying to sell you toner. If they are reputable company, they shouldn’t mind answering the questions you have.

Know the law
FTC's Telemarketers Sales Rules
Telemarketers must tell you it’s a sales call before they make their sales pitch.
Prize being offered? They must tell you that no purchase is needed to enter or win.
Before you play, they must tell you the total cost of products, any restrictions on
getting the ordered products and that a sale is final or nonrefundable.
It is illegal to misrepresent any information such as quality or quantity.
It is illegal to call you if you have asked not to be called.
Calling times are 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
FTC Law Concerning Unordered Merchandise
If the seller sends you merchandise that differs from your order in brand name, type,
quantity, size, or quality – without your OK, you may be able to treat it as unordered
merchandise. But, consider whether the seller may have made an honest mistake.

Questions to ask suspected toner bandits
Name of person and name/address/phone # of company.
How many items per case and cost per case.
Are there any shipping charges.
Wil I be billed or will it be C.O.D.
May I get your federal tax ID number?

Ways to spot a phone scam
Firm’ name intended to sound like a government agency or well known company.
You must act on the offer that day, and/or you must pay a fee to receive goods or services.
Telemarketers act like if he/she has done business with you before.
Unwilling to send written information on the offer or give out references.
Caller asks for your calling/credit card number as identification.
Caller asks for your social security number or the serial number of your copier.

How can you avoid becoming a victim?
Don’t give out equipment information, such as serial numbers over the phone.
Have one or two individuals responsible for ordering supplies.
Do business with known companies and ask for references.
Don’t pay bills unless they match your documentation.
Merchandise must conform to bill of lading, or refuse it.
Don’t pay for- or return- unordered merchandise.
Report incident to appropriate authorities immediately.
